Mission: Report on the reporters and publish interesting perspectives.

There was an old internet meme from happier and freer times about the truth. It effectively stated that if you want the whole truth you needed to go to as many sources of news as possible.

No matter what this meme was used for in the past, there is truth in it. News websites have different audiences, and those news reporters must cater to that audience. In order to cater to these audiences, news reporters must tailor their report for this audience. Unfortunately, by tailoring the news some details may be changed or even found missing entirely from the report. It may not be intentional but it happens. That is why you needed to see other news reports to fill up the gaps in the story.

It makes sense for them to do this. Most news companies are for profit and seek the demographics that will give them the largest audience to show ads to. Even if the news company is not for profit in a traditional sense, the people working there sure are. This is not bad in itself, but how these people present themselves is worthy of condemnation.

Almost every last one of them claim to tell the truth. No, they don’t. They tell a perspective backed usually by facts, but not the truth. Furthermore, they only tell a perspective of the stories they want to focus on. If a story may not appeal to their audience it is discarded. It is always about the money and anyone who says otherwise is in my opinion a liar. Yet, they claim to be nearly divine truth tellers, even grandiosely calling themselves the fourth estate.  In my view they are closer to vain whores than paragons of virtue.

Not only are they in my opinion arrogant hookers, they are also becoming desperate. The internet has become a major disruption to their business model, and in their efforts to adapt most news outlets seem to print more sensationalist propaganda than actual facts. If that is how they want to conduct their business then fine, but this change is making it harder to find the truth.

Journalists also seem to be ignoring stories. Turn on the TV and you get activism and cute dogs. Log on to news websites and you get hysteria about politics. What about the war in Syria, the war in Yemen, the slave markets of Libya, the Yellow Vest protests of Paris, and more? What about the minor but interesting events that happen every day? There is a market for everything, and in the U.S., news cycles these events are rarely if ever reported on. How are the people supposed to even find the truth if no one reports on it?

So, this is my declaration of war on the news. In my assessment these conceited pricks are chasing markets, and failing to report truth. I say screw’em. I’m going to report on the reporters, criticize their criticality, and put together the narratives so you can have the truth. Hell, I’ll even do one better, I’ll even do the job these lazy pricks won’t do. I cannot promise things like lack of bias, but I hope to paint a better picture then the traditional media and bring you closer to the truth.

My objectives for Midwest Truth are the following.

  • Report on what the news outlets say, analyze what the different outlets are saying, and point out what is being left out.
  • Publish the writings of experts on various news worthy topics and discuss the different viewpoints of the issue.
  • Offer unique perspectives counter to media narratives.
  • Give platform to those with something worthwhile to say that the media will ignore.
  • Investigate items of public interest that the media discards.

I have no delusions of this becoming big, or even making a profit on this. Most business statistically fail, I am not trained to be a journalist, and I have little money to invest in this project. What I do think though is that I hate people I consider to be pompous asshats, and will make an honest effort to expose their idiocy. I will attempt not to misrepresent them and will never deliberately lie, but by God whenever I find something they do wrong I will twist the figurative knife relentlessly.

In the unlikely event this does become big, I do this full time, and Midwest Truth becomes a prostitute like the other media outlets, I have only one wish for her.  I hope she becomes a classy, cynical, and an eternally spiteful bitch that feeds on the metaphorical blood of journalists with regularly.
