Alderwoman Carrie Austin Raided By FBI
Chicago Alderwoman Carrie Austin and super delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention had her office raided by the FBI. It has been reported that the raid was a part of the ongoing political corruption investigations of Chicago aldermen. However, the media admitted that they have no idea why the raid took place.
Carrie Austin is a Ward 34 member of the Chicago City Council in Illinois. Austin was appointed to office in 1994 by Richard Daley for a partial term. She kept her position after she was elected in 1995 and has served ever since.
The raid has been reported around 2 PM. At that time about eight government employees left the building through the front entrance with boxes. Allegedly, some of the boxes were labeled evidence. Additionally, the agents were seen leaving with trash bags, envelopes, and a computer monitor. The personnel got into five vehicles parked in front and left without acknowledging the reporters outside.
If Austin gets indicted, she could become the 4th Chicago alderwomen to be convicted with corruption. Only three female aldermen have so far been convicted of corruption.
Altogether, 35 Chicago aldermen have been convicted since 1973.
