Metra Slashing Service Over COVID-19 Passenger Drop
After a massive drop in ridership due to COVID-19, Metra is slashing the number of trains running. On some lines the cut in service is over 50%.
After conductors announced a possible schedule change on March 17, Metra finally announced the new change in a press release. In the release, CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski called the situation unprecedented.
Every line will undergo cuts, except the Heritage Corridor line. The line BNSF alone will see a 57% drop in trains servicing stations. You can view the new schedules here, and compare for yourself.
Metra stated that it is monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and may reduce trains further.
